Invitation To Entertain Opening
An Invitation to Entertain — Cookbook Photography
I first met Elizabeth Stone when she catered a couple of major birthday celebrations for me. She is the owner of Silverstone Events, a high-end catering company based in Houston, known for both exceptional food and beautifully considered presentation.
Some years later, Elizabeth reached out to collaborate on a cookbook with Bright Sky Press—the same publisher behind my book on Craig Biggio’s final game. Despite my initial hesitation about stepping into food photography, her confidence in the project was persuasive.
What followed was a two-year collaboration that took us from studio tabletops to locations across Houston, Galveston, and La Grange. We photographed not only the food, but also the carefully crafted environments and staging that define the experience of entertaining.
To manage the wide tonal range of many of these settings, we incorporated blended exposures—an approach similar to techniques I use in architectural photography—allowing us to retain both atmosphere and detail throughout each scene.
The completed book was awarded a National Gold Medal in the “Home and Garden” category at the Independent Publisher Book Awards. More recently, we began work on a new cookbook project, scheduled for publication in 2026.
