Biggio Book Opening Page

When I photographed the Houston Astros team photo in September 2007, we were just weeks away from Craig Biggio’s final game as a major league player—twenty years, all with one team. With tickets long gone, I was able to secure a field photo pass as an additional lens for the Astros.
During the game, Craig motioned me over and said, “Tell everyone I’d like to get some of these photos.” Following the game—an emotional experience for everyone in attendance—I reviewed my images and realized I had told a meaningful story of the day.
I created a self-published 10" × 10" book and printed three copies: one for Craig, one for me, and one for my representative to share. Interest grew quickly, and in conjunction with Bright Sky Press we secured an agreement with Craig and his agent. Astros great Larry Dierker wrote the foreword, and sportswriter Richard Justice contributed the afterword.
We held several book signings, including a fundraiser for pediatric cancer in memory of a young girl who lost her battle with the disease. A limited edition of signed, numbered, and autographed prints of one of the images has since raised thousands more for charitable causes.
The book is now in the permanent collection of the Baseball Hall of Fame, where Craig was inducted in 2015.
