I first met Elizabeth Stone when she provided the delicious food

for a couple of major birthday events of mine. Elizabeth is the

owner of Silverstone Events, a wonderful, high-end catering

company based in Houston.

Some years later, I found out that she was going to do a book with

Bright Sky Press, the same publisher who published my book on

Craig Biggio’s final game in the major leagues. Elizabeth reached

out to me to do the photography for her book.

I protested that I was not a food photographer, but Elizabeth was

very insistent. And so began a 2+ year long odyssey, from tabletops

of food in studio and at her facility, to locations from Galveston, to

all over Houston, to La Grange, Texas. We photographed not only

the food but also the incredible staging and layouts that she and her

staff created as a guide to entertaining.

A number of the scenarios were photographed utilizing blends of

multiple exposures in order to capture the high-contrast ratios of the locations we found ourselves in. This technique is similar to the HDR photography technique that we employ in the shoots that we do for our architectural photography clients.

Last spring, the book was awarded a National Gold Medal in the

“Home and Garden” category in The Independent Publisher Book

Awards.

After Silverstone Events provided the food for my 2015 wedding,

Elizabeth told me plans are in the works for a sequel. Yum!
