Harris County Head Start Project
I was recently contacted by Love Advertising, the agency for
The Harris County Department of Education.
They needed to photograph all the campuses in Harris County
for The Head Start Program, which provides newborns to 5-year-olds
a safe learning environment that supports growth in many areas,
including language, literacy, and social and emotional development.
We had one week to visit the locations and photograph the children
and their teachers, as the school year was about to come to an end.
With the help of a coordinator from the agency, who had arranged the
schedules and secured permissions from all the parents, I hit the ground
running, or more accurately, driving, as I logged several hundred miles
visiting the 13 locations.
The kids were adorable and enthusiastic, sometimes in the extreme,
as they wanted to fixate on this visitor with the big-to them-camera.
And I was incredibly impressed with the energy exhibited by the
teachers, as they led the kids in all sorts of activities, from dance and
playground activities, to reading, puzzle solving, and of course meal
times as well. You can tell by the photos that they love these children,
who are well cared for each and every day.
My 5 days of shooting resulted in over 5,000 images, which I
processed and edited down to the 3,000+ that I delivered.
Some of my favorites are included in this gallery.
Thank you for looking.
